LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS TASMANIA

The next Local Government election will be held during September and October 2018

 

CONSIDERING STANDING AS A CANDIDATE:

The Candidate Information Booklet is an important reference for intending candidates.

If you would like a hard copy, copies are available from the Tasmanian Electoral Commission (TEC) office, 169 Main Road, Moonah.

Alternatively, call the TEC on 1800 801 701 and they will post one to you.

 

WHO CAN VOTE IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS?

Anyone who is enrolled on the State roll for an address in a municipal area is automatically enrolled for the municipal area as well.

What if I have a shack or a shop—or if I’m not an Australian citizen?

If you

  1. are a resident in the Kentish municipality but not eligible for the state electoral roll (eg. you are not an Australian Citizen); or 
  2. own or occupy land in Kentish but do not live in Kentish (eg. you lease a shop or own a shack); or
  1. are the nominated representative of a corporate body which owns or occupies land in Kentish.

you are eligible to enrol, but must lodge an application with the General Manager:

To be enrolled under these special provisions you need to ensure that the Kentish Council General Manager has your completed enrolment form before the close of roll 6pm Thursday 13 September 2018.

ABOUT VOTING AT LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

Tasmanian Local Government elections are conducted by postal ballot - election material (including the ballot paper) is personally mailed directly to each elector.

The polling period is between the 9 and 30 October 2018.

Voting in local government elections is not compulsory however we want all of our residents to have a voice. Please ensure you are enrolled to vote
