Local Government Elections

General Manager's Roll for Local Government Elections

Local Government elections are held every four years – the next election is due in October 2026.

Tasmanian councils are the closest level of government to the community.  They are responsible for representing the interests of their communities and delivering local services and infrastructure.

Voting in local government elections is now compulsory for all people enrolled on the State Electoral Roll (Tasmanian House of Assembly Roll). Voting at local government elections is not compulsory for electors on the General Manager’s roll – see below for more information.

Who can vote?

You are entitled to vote if you are enrolled on the State Electoral Roll (Tasmanian House of Assembly Roll) at an address in the Kentish municipality or those who are enrolled on the General Manager’s Roll for the Kentish municipal area.

Am I eligible for the General Manager’s Roll?

You may be eligible for the General Manager’s Roll if:

  • If you are a resident in the Kentish municipality but are not eligible for the State Electoral Roll (e.g., you are not an Australian Citizen); or
  • You own or occupy land in Kentish but do not live in Kentish (e.g., you lease a shop or own a rental property); or
  • You are the nominated representative of a corporate body which owns or occupies land in Kentish municipality.

Enrolment on the General Manager’s Roll is not automatic.

To be enrolled under these special provisions you need to ensure that the General Manager for the Council in which you are enrolling has your completed enrolment form before the close of rolls for an election
