NEWS: IT'S BIN CHECK TIME

Don’t be alarmed if you see the team from North West Resource and Recovery poking their heads into your kerbside bins before they get collected.

They try to do this twice a year to make sure everyone is kept up to date on how they should be using their bins and provide targeted advice to those who need a little help to get it sorted correctly.

One overly contaminated bin can send the whole truckload to landfill so we want to give you the best chance of success.

Checks will be running from now until the end of April

Kerbside Collection

Council provides a fortnightly kerbside recycling service on a Friday. Collection dates can be found here.

Have your recycling wheelie bin (yellow lid) out by 6.00 am on collection day. Face the wheels of the bin away from the kerb.

What can I recycle? 

  • Hard plastic bottles, jars, tubs and containers
  • Newspapers/magazines/junk mail/cardboard/office papers
  • Glass
  • Steel and aluminium cans (empty aerosol cans)

    • Please rinse all containers, do not bundle or bag any of your recyclables.

    What I must not put in my kerbside recycle bin

  • Plastic bags
  • Window glass or mirrors
  • Polystyrene foam
  • Crockery
  • Nappies
  • Household rubbish
  • Food items
  • Household chemicals or oils - Recyclable at waste transfer stations (restrictions may apply)
  • Batteries - Recyclable at the waste transfer station
  • Light globes - Recyclable at the waste transfer station

    • Please note:  Do not put waste materials in the recycle bin.  Trucks have close-circuit cameras to monitor bin loads as they are emptied. Repeated incorrect use may result in your service being suspended.

    Where does it really get recycled?

    Safe Battery Disposal 

    Batteries should never be put in any of your kerbside bins. Batteries should be taped and disposed of at a dedicated B-Cycle drop off point. Batteries may be disposed of at the Council Office, 69 High Street, Sheffield or at the Sheffield or Port Sorell waste transfer stations.     Recyclables may also be deposited free of charge at designated locations at the waste transfer stations at Hawk Hill Road, Port Sorell and Bay Drive, Spreyton
