High Street / Main Street Sheffield Roundabout

Project: High Street / Main Street Sheffield Roundabout

Update August 2023:

Site constraints and the associated inability to create an ideal layout under design guidelines has resulted in significantly more consultation with representatives from the Department of State Growth as the owners of Main Street than would normally be necessary.

Councils internal design resources and ability to complete the drawings and tender documents in a timely manner has resulted in this work being given to a consultant in July 2023.  Good progress has since been made and it is expected that a tender for construction will be advertised late in 2023, with a view to completing the works with the 2023/24 financial year.

Scope: Detailed survey has been completed and the project is with Councils design officer to develop the concept plans previously provided into a construction set that can be put out to tender.

Kentish Council as part of its 2021-2022 Capital Works Program is proposing a roundabout at the High St / Main St intersection in Sheffield, a first for the town.

The project is being funded from the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program.  The Black Spot Program funds the treatment of roads and sites which have a proven crash history or have been identified as an ‘accident waiting to happen’ by a road safety audit.  The aim of the program is to reduce the risk of crashes, and such treatments include the installation of traffic signals and roundabouts.
