SHARED KENTISH–LATROBE GENERAL MANAGER RESIGNS, RECRUITMENT TO BEGIN
Kentish and Latrobe Councils advise that our shared General Manager, Jason Browne, has regrettably resigned from the roles effective from 17 April 2026. Mr Browne commenced with Councils in May 2024 and will be relocating back to Hobart due to a change in personal circumstances.
Latrobe Council’s Mayor, Peter Freshney, has thanked Mr Browne for his commitment and leadership across both Councils and their communities during his tenure, and acknowledged the significant change he has led during that period.
“Jason’s strong commitment to staff health and wellbeing and his collaborative approach to formalising Councils agreed values and behaviours will continue to underpin the way in which we work together to serve our communities”.
Mayor Freshney said “Jason’s resignation is unexpected and regrettable for our communities, our Councils, and the region, which have all benefited from his leadership and commitment during his time with us. Jason’s efforts in improving transparency has also been welcomed, with changes to project governance expected to improve delivery of our capital program, with the community now also receiving quarterly updates on our progress. The inclusion of a community engagement and feedback step in our annual plan and budget process over the past 12 months has increased engagement with our budget and planning processes and demonstrates our willingness to listen to our community” he said.
Mayor Haberle also thanked Mr Browne and said, “the importance Jason has placed on listening to the community with the introduction of a new community satisfaction survey has allowed both Councils to better understand where we need to focus our resources to improve community and customer experiences”. She went on to say, “the recent changes Jason has led to restructure the service delivery teams of Councils will help to achieve this.”
Reflecting on his time with Latrobe and Kentish Councils, Mr Browne said “it has been a privilege to work with the incredible staff of the Councils serving both communities over the past two years, and I thank them and the Councillors for their support during that time. I know from firsthand experience that the Councils are in good hands with a professional and dedicated leadership team in place to continue the improvements that the community has seen throughout my time with Councils”.
The Kentish and Latrobe Councils will immediately commence the process to recruit and appoint Jason’s successor and will provide further updates as appropriate.
