Kentish Council Candidate Information Session

Published 22nd July 2026
People considering standing for Kentish Council in this year's local government elections are invited to attend an information session ahead of candidate nominations opening in September.

The free information session will be held on Thursday, 3 September from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Kentish Council Chambers, 69 High Street, Sheffield. RSVP’s to Kentish Council’s Candidate Information Session is requested by phoning the Council Office on (03) 6491 0200 or email council@kentish.tas.gov.au before 3 September.

Kentish Council Mayor Kate Haberle said the session is designed to help residents better understand the role of an elected member and the election process.

"Local government decisions have a direct impact on our community, and we're encouraging anyone with an interest in representing the Kentish community to come along and find out what's involved," Mayor Haberle said.

"Serving as a councillor is an opportunity to help shape the future of our municipality by contributing to decisions on strategic planning, community priorities, services and infrastructure."

The session will provide an overview of the role and responsibilities of councillors and the work of the Kentish Council.

Representatives from the Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) will also explain the nomination and election process and answer questions from prospective candidates.

Nominations for the 2026 local government elections open on 7 September and close on 21 September, with voting to take place between 5 October and 27 October.

People interested in standing for election can access candidate handbooks, eligibility requirements and election information through the Tasmanian Electoral Commission at the Local Government elections section of its website.
